Biography
I started working with Stelco in September 1979 as an apprentice Millwright in the Plate and Strip Mechanical department at Hilton Works. I was transferred to the Lake Erie Works plant in May 1986. While there I became active in organized labour with United Steelworkers Local 8782. I was a union steward and health and safety representative. Later I became Trades Training Coordinator. This elected position was to represent all skilled trades people and apprentices. When I was the TTC, I was approached by the Executive Director of the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie to join the Board of Directors. I have now served on this board for approximately 18 years. Serving with on WFBGE I have received extensive training in board governance and have served multiple terms as co-chair.
I am now in my third term on the Hamilton Municipal Heritage Committee and my second on the Permit Review Subcommittee, I am vice chair on both. I have had an interest in history and built heritage for many years, especially with Hamilton’s industrial heritage. I assist on the Facebook group Vintage Hamilton.
